Tracks: Privacy Policy

Last updated 29 October 2026.

This policy covers the iPhone app Tracks: Focus Timer, published by Setout Labs LLC ("we"). It explains what stays on your iPhone, what leaves it, and how to delete your data. Our company-wide privacy policy covers this website and our other products.

The short version

  • Tracks is a focus timer for iPhone and iPad that plays out as an illustrated rail journey. It is free, with no account or sign-in, no purchases and no advertising. Your rides, focus totals, intention and settings stay on your device.
  • Tracks uses Mixpanel for usage analytics and Sentry for crash reports. Neither is tied to your name, an account or the advertising identifier.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites, show ads, or sell your data.

What stays on your iPhone

Tracks keeps these in the app's own storage on your iPhone or iPad. We have no server for them and never receive them:

  • the current ride or break: its length, the time elapsed, when it ends and whether it is paused;
  • the journey: the route, the station you are at and the scenery;
  • your focus totals: focus today and over all time, and how many rides you finished;
  • the intention you type under Focus on…, if you write one (up to 160 characters);
  • your settings: sound, volume, the ride sound, the train, music and weather layers, Taps & chimes, Outside, Breaks, Arrival alert, Status bar while riding and Block apps.

These are stored in iOS user defaults; the app adds no encryption of its own. Small app flags, such as whether the app has been opened before and when it last asked for a rating, are stored there too.

Arrival alerts and the lock screen

If you turn on Arrival alert, Tracks schedules a notification on your device for the moment a ride or break ends (for example "Arrived. 25 min focused."). It is a local notification: nothing is sent from a server.

On iPhone, a running ride appears as a Live Activity on the lock screen and in the Dynamic Island, showing whether you are riding or on a break, the destination station and when it ends. Anyone who can see your lock screen can see it. Your intention is not shown. You can turn Live Activities off for Tracks in iPhone Settings.

Blocking apps during a ride

Block apps is off by default. If you turn it on, Tracks asks for Screen Time access for your own device and opens Apple's app picker. Apple gives Tracks opaque tokens for the apps, categories and websites you pick, not their names. Tracks keeps those tokens on your device and uses them only to cover the picked apps with a Tracks screen while a ride runs; pausing, ending or arriving lifts it. If Tracks is closed during a ride, an iOS schedule lifts it when the ride ends.

Tracks reads no Screen Time or app usage data. Your picks and your app use never leave your device and are not sent to analytics.

Postcards

After a finished ride, Tracks shows a postcard with the scenery, your focus time, the date and your intention if you wrote one. If you tap Share postcard, the app saves the image in its temporary files and opens the iOS share sheet. Where it goes, including saving it to Photos, is your choice, and the app or person you send it to handles that copy under their own terms. Saving to Photos asks for permission to add images only; Tracks never reads your photo library.

Permissions

  • Notifications. Asked only when you turn on Arrival alert. You can say no and still use the app.
  • Screen Time. Asked only when you turn on Block apps.
  • Add to Photos. Asked by iOS only if you save a postcard to Photos.

Tracks plays sounds bundled with the app and keeps playing them with the screen locked if you turned sound on. It requests no microphone, camera, location, contacts or Health access.

Usage analytics (Mixpanel)

Mixpanel receives these events:

  • that the app was opened, and whether it was the first open;
  • that a ride departed or arrived, with its length;
  • that you ended a ride early, with its length and the minutes of focus it counted;
  • rating prompt steps: whether the app was allowed to ask and whether the request reached iOS.

Each event carries the app version, build and build type. The Mixpanel library adds a random identifier it creates for this installation (not the advertising identifier or Apple's vendor identifier) and device and operating system details such as model and iOS version. Tracks tells Mixpanel not to use your network address to estimate your location, so no city, region or country is stored. Your intention and anything else you type are never sent. The app does not use Mixpanel's automatic event collection, and there is no in-app switch to turn analytics off.

Crash reports (Sentry)

If the app crashes or hits an error, Sentry receives a report with the error, the code location (stack trace), the app version, device, operating system and runtime details, a random installation identifier, and a trail of recent app warnings and steps. Sentry also receives performance timing for a sample of app activity, such as how long the app takes to start. The app does not ask Sentry to attach personal information, and your intention is not logged.

What leaves your iPhone

Our app and service providers collect the following data for the stated purposes. None of it is used to track you across other companies' apps or websites.

  • Diagnostics → Crash Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
  • Diagnostics → Other Diagnostic Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
  • Diagnostics → Performance Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
  • Identifiers → Device ID: Analytics; not linked to you.
  • Usage Data → Product Interaction: Analytics; not linked to you.

We use two service providers. They process data only on our behalf, and we require each to give your data the same or equivalent protection as this Privacy Policy.

  • Mixpanel (usage analytics). Receives the usage events described under Usage analytics (Mixpanel) above.
  • Sentry (crash reports). Receives the crash and error reports described under Crash reports (Sentry) above.

What we do not do

Tracks does not track you across other companies' apps or websites and shows no ads. It never asks for permission to track you, so the advertising identifier is not available to it. Its privacy manifest declares no tracking. We do not sell or rent your data.

Deleting your data

Tracks has no in-app reset. Removing the app deletes your rides, focus totals, intention, settings and app picks. Apple's device backups and transfers may include the app's data. Tracks cannot restore lost totals. Postcards you shared or saved stay where you put them.

Analytics events and crash reports already sent stay with Mixpanel and Sentry under the retention settings of our accounts with them. They are tied to random identifiers, not to you by name.

For data held by our service providers, email us at support@setout.ai and we will respond within 30 days.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to object to its use, and to complain to your data protection authority. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If we learn that a child under 13 (or the minimum age where they live) has given us personal data, we will delete it. Parents or guardians who believe this has happened should email us.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above. For material changes we will give notice before they take effect.
