Stamp: Privacy Policy

Last updated 4 November 2026.

This policy covers the iPhone app Stamp: Timestamp Camera, published by Setout Labs LLC ("we"). It explains what stays on your iPhone, what leaves it, and how to delete your data. Our company-wide privacy policy covers this website and our other products.

The short version

  • Stamp: Timestamp Camera is a free iPhone app with no account, no purchases and no advertising.
  • Your photos, notes and locations stay on your iPhone. We have no server for them and never receive them. They leave only when you share a photo or add it to Photos, or, if you turn on a place or address in the stamp, when iOS sends your location to Apple to look up that name.
  • The app uses Mixpanel for usage analytics, Sentry for crash reports, and Apple's attribution service to learn whether an install came from one of our Apple Ads campaigns. None of them receives your photos, notes or locations, and none of it is tied to your name or email.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites, show ads, or sell your data.

What stays on your iPhone

Each stamped photo is written to the app's own storage on your iPhone, alongside a local database row holding its capture time, time-zone offset and the stamp settings used, including any note you added and, if you turned location on, the location text and GPS position used. Your stamp preferences are stored in iOS user defaults. Nothing expires on a schedule; files stay until you remove them.

A copy is also added to your Photos library, which Photos then manages under your own iCloud and backup settings. Apple's device backups and transfers may include the app's local files. If you share a photo, the app or person you send it to handles that copy under their own terms.

Permissions

  • Camera. Needed to show the viewfinder and take the photo you stamp.
  • Photos (add only). Used to save each stamped photo to your library. The app asks for add-only access, so it cannot read or browse your existing photos.

Location (while using the app). Off by default. The app asks only when you turn on Location in Stamp settings, and uses it only while the camera or Stamp settings is open. The place, address or coordinates you choose are drawn into the photo, and its GPS position is saved in the image file and in the copy added to Photos, so anyone you share the photo with can see where it was taken. To show a place or address, iOS sends your location to Apple's geocoding service; it is never sent to us. Turn Location off and new photos carry no location at all.

The app requests no microphone or contacts access, and no permission to track.

Usage analytics (Mixpanel)

Mixpanel receives usage events tied to a random identifier the Mixpanel library creates for this installation, along with device details it adds, such as device model and iOS version. The events are:

  • the app opening, the camera starting or being blocked, and whether you allowed camera, Photos or location access when iOS asked;
  • a photo being taken, with the look, whether it had a note or a number, which location option was on and whether a location was found, the lens, zoom step, self-timer and flash setting;
  • the photo being saved in the app or failing to save, and whether adding it to Photos worked;
  • the look you switch to, and which quick note chip you tap (Before, After, Issue, a recent note or Auto numbering), never what the note says;
  • Recent opening, and how many photos you shared or deleted;
  • the app being opened from Control Center or Shortcuts, and the rating prompt being considered or requested.

Each event also carries the app version and build and your device's region setting (country). If the install came from one of our Apple Ads campaigns, one attribution event carries those campaign identifiers (see below).

The app tells Mixpanel not to use your network address to estimate your location; it sends the country from your device settings instead. Your photos, note text, place names, addresses, coordinates and file names are never sent. The app does not use Mixpanel's automatic event collection. Mixpanel keeps events under the retention settings of our account with it.

Apple Ads attribution

When Stamp first opens (or on a later launch, if that attempt fails), it asks iOS for an attribution token and sends it to Apple's attribution service, which replies whether the install came from one of our Apple Ads campaigns and, if so, the campaign, ad group and keyword identifiers. Stamp sends that reply to Mixpanel as described above. The token itself is not sent to Mixpanel. This uses no advertising identifier and no tracking permission.

Crash reports (Sentry)

If the app crashes, Sentry receives a report with the code location (stack trace), the app version, device model and iOS version. To count sessions without a crash, Sentry also receives when each app session starts and ends, with a random installation identifier. The app removes error message text and anything that looks like a note, place, address or coordinates before a report is sent, does not attach screenshots, and does not send performance timing. Sentry keeps reports under the retention settings of our account with it.

Turning off analytics and crash reports

Open Stamp settings and turn off Share usage and crash data. The app stops sending usage events to Mixpanel and crash reports to Sentry right away, and on later launches it starts neither of them and no longer asks Apple for attribution. Turn the switch back on to resume from the next launch.

Where data is processed

Mixpanel and Sentry process data in the United States. Where the law requires it, transfers from the EEA, UK or Switzerland rely on the providers' standard contractual clauses.

What leaves your iPhone

Our app and service providers collect the following data for the stated purposes. None of it is used to track you across other companies' apps or websites.

  • Diagnostics → Crash Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
  • Diagnostics → Other Diagnostic Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
  • Identifiers → Device ID: Analytics, App Functionality; not linked to you.
  • Usage Data → Advertising Data: Analytics; not linked to you.
  • Usage Data → Product Interaction: Analytics; not linked to you.

We use two service providers. They process data only on our behalf, and we require each to give your data the same or equivalent protection as this Privacy Policy.

  • Mixpanel (usage analytics). Receives the usage events described under Usage analytics (Mixpanel) above, including the Apple Ads campaign identifiers.
  • Sentry (crash reports). Receives the crash reports described under Crash reports (Sentry) above.

What we do not do

Stamp does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, does not use the advertising identifier, and shows no ads. Its privacy manifest declares no tracking. We do not sell or rent your data.

Deleting your data

Open a photo in Recent and choose Delete from app. That removes the app's copy and its record. The copy in your Photos library, and anything you already shared, is not affected — delete those in Photos. Removing the app deletes all of its local photos, records and preferences, and stops all collection.

Analytics events and crash reports are tied to random identifiers, not to your name or email. To ask for access to them or their deletion, email us and say it's about Stamp: Timestamp Camera and which iPhone you use, so we can find the right records.

For data held by our service providers, email us at support@setout.ai and we will respond within 30 days.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to object to its use, and to complain to your data protection authority. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If we learn that a child under 13 (or the minimum age where they live) has given us personal data, we will delete it. Parents or guardians who believe this has happened should email us.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above. For material changes we will give notice before they take effect.
