Tally: Privacy Policy
Last updated 5 November 2026.
This policy covers the iPhone and Android app Tally, published by Setout Labs LLC ("we"). It explains what stays on your phone, what leaves it, and how to delete your data. Our company-wide privacy policy covers this website and our other products.
The short version
- Tally has no account and no sign-in. It doesn't ask for your name or email.
- The trips you enter, their countries and dates, and every count and calculation stay on your phone. We have no server for them and never receive them. Tally does not use GPS or your location.
- The app uses Mixpanel for usage analytics, Sentry for crash reports and, on iPhone, Apple's attribution service to learn whether an install came from one of our Apple Ads campaigns. Purchases go directly through Apple or Google.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites, show ads, or sell your data.
What stays on your phone
Tally keeps these in the app's own storage:
- the trips you enter: their countries and dates, including planned trips;
- the dates you last checked on the Check tab, until you save them as a trip or start over;
- your settings, such as theme, and when the app last asked for a rating;
- whether onboarding is done, whether the app has opened before and whether Apple Ads attribution has finished.
Counting, the calendar and trip checks all run on your phone and work offline. Apple's device backups and Android's backup to your Google account may include the app's files.
Permissions
Tally shows no permission prompts. It requests no location, camera, photos, contacts, microphone, notifications or Health access, and no permission to track.
Usage analytics (Mixpanel)
Mixpanel receives usage events linked to a random identifier the Mixpanel library creates for this installation, along with device details it adds, such as device model and operating system version. Each event also carries the app's build number, whether it is a test or store build, and whether you have Tally Planning (free, trial, paid or not yet known). The events are:
- that the app opened, and whether it was the first time;
- which onboarding step you see and that you finished onboarding;
- that you saved a trip, never its countries or dates;
- that the Tally Planning screen opened and from where; a purchase starting, finishing, waiting for approval, being cancelled or failing, with the product, its price, currency and billing period, and whether it included a free trial; and a restore starting, finding a purchase or not, or failing;
- the rating prompt being considered, shown or failing, or the store listing being opened from Settings;
- on iPhone, the Apple Ads attribution result (see below).
The app tells Mixpanel not to use your network address to estimate your location. Your trips, countries, dates and results are never sent. The app does not use Mixpanel's automatic event collection. Mixpanel's standard retention for events is currently 2 years from the event date.
Apple Ads attribution (iPhone only)
On iPhone, when Tally first opens (or on a later launch, if that attempt fails), it asks iOS for an attribution token and sends it to Apple's attribution service, which replies whether the install came from one of our Apple Ads campaigns and, if so, the campaign, ad group and keyword identifiers. Tally sends that reply to Mixpanel as described above. The token itself is not sent to Mixpanel. This uses no advertising identifier and no tracking permission. It does not run on Android.
Crash reports (Sentry)
If the app crashes or hits an error, Sentry receives a report with the error, the code location (stack trace), the app version, device model and operating system version, a random installation identifier, and a trail of recent app activity. Sentry also receives when each app session starts and ends, and performance timing for a sample of app activity, such as how long the app takes to start. Before a report is sent, the app removes database text that could contain trip countries or dates. It does not attach screenshots or ask Sentry to attach your IP address. Sentry currently keeps this data for 30 days.
Purchases (Apple and Google)
Tally buys and restores Tally Planning directly through Apple on iPhone and through Google Play on Android. The app checks your Tally Planning status with Apple or Google on your phone. Apple handles payment through your Apple ID and Google through your Google account; we never see your card or billing details. The app sends Mixpanel the purchase and restore events described under Usage analytics (Mixpanel) above, never your Apple ID, Google account, order number or payment details, and sends no purchase details to Sentry or us.
Emailing support
If you choose Contact support in Settings, your mail app opens a message to us with the app name, version and build filled in. Nothing is sent unless you send it, and no trip details are attached.
Where data is processed
Mixpanel and Sentry process data in the United States. Where the law requires it, transfers from the EEA, UK or Switzerland rely on the providers' standard contractual clauses.
What leaves your phone
Our app and service providers collect the following data for the stated purposes. None of it is used to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- Diagnostics → Crash Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
- Diagnostics → Other Diagnostic Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
- Diagnostics → Performance Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
- Identifiers → Device ID: Analytics, App Functionality; not linked to you.
- Purchases → Purchase History: Analytics; not linked to you.
- Usage Data → Advertising Data: Analytics; not linked to you.
- Usage Data → Product Interaction: Analytics; not linked to you.
We use two service providers. They process data only on our behalf, and we require each to give your data the same or equivalent protection as this Privacy Policy.
- Mixpanel (usage analytics). Receives the usage events described under Usage analytics (Mixpanel) above, including the Apple Ads campaign identifiers.
- Sentry (crash reports). Receives the crash and error reports described under Crash reports (Sentry) above.
What we do not do
Tally does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, does not use an advertising identifier (Apple's IDFA or Google's advertising ID), and shows no ads. Its iPhone privacy manifest declares no tracking. We do not sell or rent your data.
Deleting your data
To remove a trip, open it and tap Delete trip. Removing the app deletes everything Tally stores on your phone and stops all collection. A Tally Planning purchase stays with your Apple ID or Google account. Apple's or Google's device backups may still hold a copy.
Analytics events and crash reports are tied to random identifiers, not to your name or email. To ask for access to them or their deletion, email us and say it's about Tally and which phone you use, so we can find the right records.
For data held by our service providers, email us at support@setout.ai and we will respond within 30 days.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to object to its use, and to complain to your data protection authority. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If we learn that a child under 13 (or the minimum age where they live) has given us personal data, we will delete it. Parents or guardians who believe this has happened should email us.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above. For material changes we will give notice before they take effect.
