Pine: Privacy Policy
Last updated 1 November 2026.
This policy covers the iPhone app Pine, published by Setout Labs LLC ("we"). It explains what stays on your iPhone, what leaves it, and how to delete your data. Our company-wide privacy policy covers this website and our other products.
The short version
- Your photos are checked on your iPhone and never uploaded. There is no account.
- We use two outside services, for usage analytics and crash reports. Neither receives your photos or image data.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites, show ads, or sell your data.
What stays on your iPhone
To find duplicates, the app keeps an index on your iPhone: for each photo, its date, size, a numeric fingerprint of how it looks and quality scores used to suggest the best one, plus the groups it found and the photos you chose to keep or delete. Photos themselves stay in your Photos library. Deleting the app removes the index.
What leaves your iPhone
Our app and service providers collect the following data for the stated purposes. None of it is used to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- Diagnostics → Crash Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
- Diagnostics → Other Diagnostic Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
- Identifiers → Device ID: Analytics; not linked to you.
- Location → Coarse Location: Analytics; not linked to you.
- Purchases → Purchase History: Analytics; not linked to you.
- Usage Data → Advertising Data: Analytics; not linked to you.
- Usage Data → Product Interaction: Analytics; not linked to you.
We use two service providers. They process data only on our behalf, and we require each to give your data the same or equivalent protection as this Privacy Policy.
- Mixpanel (usage analytics). Usage analytics help us understand how the app is used, such as which screens are opened and whether a purchase was made. Mixpanel processes this data on our behalf under a data processing agreement that requires it to protect the data. Each event includes the App Store country of your Apple Account, so we can compare prices and languages by country. Mixpanel does not look up your location from your network address.
- Sentry (crash reports). If the app crashes or hits an error, a report is sent so we can fix it. It includes technical details such as the app version, iOS version and iPhone model. Sentry processes this data on our behalf under a data processing agreement that requires it to protect the data.
What we do not do
We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. We do not show ads or use advertising networks. We do not sell or rent your data.
Deleting your data
To request deletion of data held by our service providers, email us at the address below. Deleting the app removes its local data.

Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to object to its use, and to complain to your data protection authority. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If we learn that a child under 13 (or the minimum age where they live) has given us personal data, we will delete it. Parents or guardians who believe this has happened should email us.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above. For material changes we will give notice before they take effect.
