Loci: Privacy Policy
Last updated 30 October 2026.
This policy covers the iPhone app Loci: Stoic Daily Practice, published by Setout Labs LLC ("we"). It explains what stays on your iPhone, what leaves it, and how to delete your data. Our company-wide privacy policy covers this website and our other products.
The short version
- Loci has no account and no sign-in. Your plans, reviews, Stoic checks and lesson progress stay on your iPhone. We have no server for them and never receive them.
- The app uses three outside services: Sentry for crash reports, Mixpanel for basic usage analytics, and Superwall to record purchases. Payment itself is handled by Apple.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites, show ads, or sell your data.
What stays on your iPhone
Loci keeps these in a database in the app's own storage:
- your morning plans and intentions, evening reviews and Stoic checks, including anything you type;
- your lesson progress and drill answers;
- the days you practised.
Your reminder times and app settings are kept in the app's settings storage. Today's quote and, with full access, today's intention are also copied to storage shared with Loci's widgets so they can show on your Home Screen and Lock Screen. That copy stays on your iPhone.
Permissions
Notifications. Used only for the morning and evening reminders you choose and, during a free trial, one reminder two days before the trial ends. Loci asks during setup; you can say no and still use the app.
Loci requests no camera, microphone, photos, location, contacts or Health access.
Usage analytics (Mixpanel)
Mixpanel receives usage events tied to a random identifier the Mixpanel library creates for this installation, along with device and operating system details it adds, such as model and iOS version. The events are:
- the app opening, and which screen you open;
- each setup step you reach, and finishing setup;
- that you saved a morning plan, an evening review or a Stoic check (with a number such as how many parts you marked as yours, never the words);
- that you exported your journal, with the number of days in it;
- the upgrade screen opening or closing, the plan you pick, and a purchase starting, completing, failing or being restored, with the plan type;
- the rating prompt being shown, or the App Store review page being opened from Settings.
Each event also carries the app build, which version of setup you saw, and whether you have full access, are in a free trial, or neither.
Your plans, reviews, checks and drill answers are never sent. The app does not use Mixpanel's automatic event collection.
Crash reports (Sentry)
If the app crashes or hits an error, Sentry receives a report with the error, the code location (stack trace), the app version, and device, operating system and runtime details, plus a trail of recent app events. Sentry also receives performance timing, such as how long the app takes to start. The app does not ask Sentry to attach personal information, and it removes error message text before a report is sent, so what you write is not included.
Purchases (Superwall and Apple)
Loci buys and restores subscriptions and the lifetime purchase through Apple. Superwall records each purchase and restore alongside: it receives a random identifier it creates, device and app details, and your purchase status. Apple handles payment through your Apple ID; we and Superwall never see your card or billing details.
Sharing and export
When you share a quote card, Loci draws the quote into an image and opens the iOS share sheet. Settings → Export journal writes your entries to a plain-text file and opens the share sheet. Where either goes is your choice, and the app or person you send it to handles that copy under their own terms.
What leaves your iPhone
Our app and service providers collect the following data for the stated purposes. None of it is used to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- Diagnostics → Crash Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
- Diagnostics → Other Diagnostic Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
- Diagnostics → Performance Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
- Identifiers → Device ID: Analytics, App Functionality; not linked to you.
- Purchases → Purchase History: Analytics, App Functionality; not linked to you.
- Usage Data → Product Interaction: Analytics; not linked to you.
We use three service providers. They process data only on our behalf, and we require each to give your data the same or equivalent protection as this Privacy Policy.
- Mixpanel (usage analytics). Receives the usage events described under Usage analytics (Mixpanel) above. The app tells Mixpanel not to use your network address to estimate your location.
- Sentry (crash reports). Receives the crash and error reports described under Crash reports (Sentry) above.
- Superwall (subscriptions). Records purchases and restores, as described under Purchases above.
What we do not do
Loci does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, does not use the advertising identifier, and shows no ads. Its privacy manifest declares no tracking. We do not sell or rent your data.
Deleting your data
Settings → Delete local data removes your morning plans, evening reviews, Stoic checks, lesson progress and reminder settings from this iPhone. It cannot be undone. A purchase stays with your Apple ID. Removing the app also deletes its local data. Apple's device backups may include the app's files, and exports you shared stay where you sent them.
Analytics events, crash reports and purchase records are kept by Mixpanel, Sentry and Superwall under the retention settings of our accounts with them. They are tied to random identifiers, not to you by name.
For data held by our service providers, email us at support@setout.ai and we will respond within 30 days.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to object to its use, and to complain to your data protection authority. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If we learn that a child under 13 (or the minimum age where they live) has given us personal data, we will delete it. Parents or guardians who believe this has happened should email us.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above. For material changes we will give notice before they take effect.
