Dial: Privacy Policy

Last updated 5 November 2026.

This policy covers the iPhone app Dial: LED Light Controller, published by Setout Labs LLC ("we"). It explains what stays on your iPhone, what leaves it, and how to delete your data. Our company-wide privacy policy covers this website and our other products.

The short version

  • Dial is a free iPhone app that controls Bluetooth LED lights. There is no account, no purchases and no advertising. Your lights, colors and settings stay on your iPhone.
  • The app uses two outside services: Sentry, for crash reports and for the light report you can choose to send, and Mixpanel, for anonymous usage statistics.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites, show ads, or sell your data.

What stays on your iPhone

Dial keeps these in the app's own storage. We have no server for them and never receive them:

  • each light you add: its Bluetooth identifier, its advertised name, the name you give it, its type, when you added and last used it, and the last power, color, brightness, effect, white and sleep-timer settings the app sent;
  • your saved colors, your theme choice, whether you've seen the intro, and when the app last asked for a rating.

Schedules are stored on the light itself, and the app sets the light's clock from your iPhone when it connects. These go only to your light over Bluetooth.

Bluetooth

Dial uses Bluetooth to find and control your light. It scans only while you add a light or report one, and connects only to lights you saved. Nothing about nearby devices is sent to us unless you send a light report.

Microphone

Music sync listens through the microphone only while the Music tab is open and the app is on screen. The sound is analysed on your iPhone to follow the beat and then discarded. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent.

Light reports

If your light isn't listed, you can send us a report. You pick one nearby device, see exactly what will be sent, and tap Send report. The report contains that device's advertised name, its Bluetooth service identifiers and manufacturer data, your iPhone model, your iOS version, the app version and the light type its name matches, if any. If connecting to that device failed, it also contains the Bluetooth services and characteristics the app found on it and their properties. It goes to Sentry with no account or installation identifier and no activity history. We use it to decide which lights to support next.

Usage statistics (Mixpanel)

To learn whether connecting works and which features people use, the app sends Mixpanel short records of events: the app opened, a search for lights started, a supported type of light was found, a connection succeeded or failed (with the light type, a broad reason and how long it took), and the first time you use a feature such as color, effects, music or the sleep timer after connecting to a light. Each record also carries the app version, iOS version and iPhone model. Records are tied to a random identifier Mixpanel creates for this installation, not to your name or an account.

They never include your lights' Bluetooth names or identifiers, the names you give your lights, the colors or settings you choose, your schedules, or anything you type.

Crash reports (Sentry)

If the app crashes or hits an error, Sentry receives a report with the error type, the code location (stack trace), the app version and build, device, operating system and runtime details, and a trail of recent in-app steps. Some reports include timing data about how the app performs. Reports are tied to a random identifier Sentry creates for this installation, not to your name. The app does not ask Sentry to attach personal information.

What leaves your iPhone

Our app and service providers collect the following data for the stated purposes. None of it is used to track you across other companies' apps or websites.

  • Diagnostics → Crash Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
  • Diagnostics → Other Diagnostic Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
  • Diagnostics → Performance Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
  • Identifiers → Device ID: Analytics; not linked to you.
  • Usage Data → Product Interaction: Analytics; not linked to you.

We use two service providers. They process data only on our behalf, and we require each to give your data the same or equivalent protection as this Privacy Policy.

  • Mixpanel (usage analytics). Receives the anonymous usage statistics described above. Mixpanel uses the network address of each request to estimate a city, region and country.
  • Sentry (crash reports). Receives the crash reports and light reports described above.

What we do not do

Dial does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, does not use the advertising identifier, and shows no ads. Its privacy manifest declares no tracking. We do not sell or rent your data.

Deleting your data

Remove light deletes a saved light from the app. Removing the app deletes all of its local data. Apple's device backups and transfers may include the app's files.

Crash reports and light reports already sent stay with Sentry, and usage statistics with Mixpanel, under the retention settings of our accounts. They are not tied to your name or an account. To ask us to delete them, email us at the address below.

For data held by our service providers, email us at support@setout.ai and we will respond within 30 days.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to object to its use, and to complain to your data protection authority. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If we learn that a child under 13 (or the minimum age where they live) has given us personal data, we will delete it. Parents or guardians who believe this has happened should email us.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above. For material changes we will give notice before they take effect.
