Click: Privacy Policy

Last updated 2 November 2026.

This policy covers the iPhone and Android app Click: Universal TV Remote, published by Setout Labs LLC ("we"). It explains what stays on your phone, what goes only to your TV, what leaves for our service providers, and how to delete your data. Our company-wide privacy policy covers this website and our other products.

The short version

  • Click has no account and no sign-in. It doesn't ask for your name or email.
  • Click finds your TV on your Wi-Fi and sends your button presses, typed text and app launches straight to it. That traffic stays on your network and never reaches us.
  • The app uses Mixpanel for usage analytics, Sentry for crash reports, Superwall for purchases and, on iPhone, Apple's attribution service to learn whether an install came from one of our Apple Ads campaigns. Payment itself is handled by Apple or Google.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites, show ads, or sell your data.

What stays on your phone

Click keeps these in a database in the app's own storage:

  • the TVs you save: their name, brand, network address and, for some TVs, hardware (MAC) address;
  • your button layouts, pinned apps and remote settings;
  • whether your first session has been used.

Pairing keys and certificates for each TV are kept in the iOS Keychain on iPhone, and on Android encrypted with a key held in the Android Keystore. The last TV you used and your Click Pro status are also copied to storage shared with Click's own widgets so they can work from your Home Screen, Lock Screen and Control Center on iPhone, and from the home-screen widget and Quick Settings tile on Android. That copy stays on your phone. Apple's device backups may include the app's files and keychain items. Android's backup to your Google account may include the app's files, such as your saved TVs and settings; any pairing keys in it stay encrypted, and the Keystore key that unlocks them is never backed up, so another phone can't read them.

Your Wi-Fi and your TV

To find TVs, Click searches your Wi-Fi network (using SSDP, Bonjour and a scan of nearby addresses). To do that it reads your phone's own address on the Wi-Fi network. It does not read the network's name and does not access your location.

Your button presses, typed text, app launches, pairing codes and wake-up signals go directly from your phone to the TV you choose, over your local network. They never pass through our servers or our service providers. The TV handles them under its maker's own terms.

Permissions

Local network (iPhone). Needed to find and control TVs on your Wi-Fi. If you say no, Click can't see your TV; you can turn it on later in iPhone Settings → Click → Local Network.

Network access (Android). Click shows no permission prompts on Android. It uses network access, Wi-Fi state and Wi-Fi multicast, which Android grants at install, to find and control TVs. It does not request Nearby devices or location. Its purchase library adds Google Play billing and install-referrer access, which also need no prompt.

On either platform, Click requests no camera, microphone, photos, location, contacts or Health access, and no permission to track.

Usage analytics (Mixpanel)

Mixpanel receives usage events tied to a random identifier the Mixpanel library creates when you install the app, along with device details it adds, such as device model and manufacturer, operating system version and screen size, and on Android your mobile carrier and Wi-Fi state. The events are:

  • the app being installed and opened, and which screen you open;
  • a TV being paired or used, with only its platform (for example Roku or Samsung), never its name or address;
  • the upgrade screen opening, closing or failing to load, and a purchase or restore starting, completing or failing, with the product, plan type and period, list price and currency, whether a trial applies, and where the offer was shown;
  • campaign codes from a link you opened the app from.

Each event also carries the app version and build and whether you have Click Pro. If the install came from one of our Apple Ads campaigns, events carry those campaign identifiers too (see below).

Click tells Mixpanel not to use your network (IP) address to estimate where you are. Mixpanel keeps these events for two years. What you type, your TVs' names and addresses, and your pairing keys are never sent.

Apple Ads attribution (iPhone only)

On iPhone, when Click first opens (or on a later launch, if that attempt fails), it asks iOS for an attribution token and sends it to Apple's attribution service, which replies whether the install came from one of our Apple Ads campaigns and, if so, the campaign, ad group and keyword identifiers. Click sends that reply to Mixpanel as described above. The token itself is not sent to Mixpanel. Superwall may also receive the same token to attribute purchases to a campaign. This uses no advertising identifier and no tracking permission. It does not run on Android.

Crash reports (Sentry)

If the app crashes or hits an error, Sentry receives a report with the error, the code location (stack trace), the app version, device model and operating system version, a random installation identifier, and a trail of recent app warnings, such as a TV error code and its brand. Sentry also receives performance timing for a sample of app activity, such as how long the app takes to start. The app does not ask Sentry to attach your IP address or other personal information. Sentry keeps reports under the retention settings of our account with it.

Purchases (Superwall, Apple and Google)

Click buys and restores Click Pro through Apple on iPhone and through Google Play on Android. Superwall shows the upgrade screen and records each purchase and restore: it receives the purchase and its receipt (on Android, the Google Play purchase token), your Pro status, a random identifier it creates, and device and app details, plus on Android the Google Play install referrer. Apple handles payment through your Apple ID and Google through your Google account; we and Superwall never see your card or billing details. Superwall handles this data under its own privacy policy.

Emailing support

If you choose Contact support in Settings, your mail app opens a message to us with your app version, operating system version, device model and the time already filled in. You can delete any of it before sending. We keep support email for up to two years.

Where data is processed

Mixpanel, Sentry and Superwall process data in the United States. Where the law requires it, transfers from the EEA, UK or Switzerland rely on the providers' standard contractual clauses.

TV brands

TV and platform names on our pages and in the app, such as Roku, Samsung, LG, Fire TV, Google TV and Vizio, only describe which TVs Click works with. They are trademarks of their owners. Setout Labs is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any of them.

What leaves your phone

Our app and service providers collect the following data for the stated purposes. None of it is used to track you across other companies' apps or websites.

  • Identifiers → Device ID: Analytics, App Functionality; not linked to you.
  • Purchases → Purchase History: Analytics, App Functionality; not linked to you.
  • Usage Data → Product Interaction: Analytics; not linked to you.
  • Usage Data → Advertising Data: Analytics; not linked to you.
  • Diagnostics → Crash Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
  • Diagnostics → Performance Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.
  • Diagnostics → Other Diagnostic Data: App Functionality; not linked to you.

We use three service providers. They process data only on our behalf, and we require each to give your data the same or equivalent protection as this Privacy Policy.

  • Mixpanel (usage analytics). Receives the usage events described under Usage analytics (Mixpanel) above, including the Apple Ads campaign identifiers.
  • Sentry (crash reports). Receives the crash and error reports described under Crash reports (Sentry) above.
  • Superwall (subscriptions). Shows the upgrade screen and records purchases and restores, as described under Purchases above.

What we do not do

Click does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, does not use an advertising identifier (Apple's IDFA or Google's advertising ID), and shows no ads. Its iPhone privacy manifest declares no tracking. We do not sell or rent your data.

Deleting your data

To remove one TV, open Settings → TVs, pick the TV and tap Forget this TV. That deletes its saved details and its pairing keys from this phone. Removing the app deletes everything else Click stores on your phone and stops all collection. A Click Pro purchase stays with your Apple ID or Google account. Apple's or Google's device backups may still hold a copy.

Analytics events, crash reports and purchase records are tied to random identifiers, not to your name or email. To ask for access to them or their deletion, email us and say it's about Click and which phone you use, so we can find the right records.

For data held by our service providers, email us at support@setout.ai and we will respond within 30 days.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to object to its use, and to complain to your data protection authority. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If we learn that a child under 13 (or the minimum age where they live) has given us personal data, we will delete it. Parents or guardians who believe this has happened should email us.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above. For material changes we will give notice before they take effect.
